In 2023, Australia placed 19 out of 64 countries ranked in IMD’s annual World Competitiveness Ranking. Business efficiency, ranked 30th globally was one of Australia’s largest hurdles to climbing higher in the rankings. Dive into the 2023 Competitiveness Ranking

To help the Australian economy increase its competitiveness, businesses must both improve the efficiency of its core operations, while transforming to capture new revenue streams. Some companies in Australia are ahead of the curve and have achieved substantial transformations. However, others still have a considerable amount of work to do. To get a clear gauge on this difference, we are introducing the Australia Company Transformation Indicator (ACTI), a research initiative providing deep insights into the transformation efforts within Australia’s Financial Services, Retail, and Materials and Mining sectors. This analysis is part of a wider series of country-specific Indicators across Asia and Oceania, designed to offer a clear, unbiased view of the transformative dynamics shaping businesses regionally. The ACTI offers a clear view of the transformative momentum among key players in the Australian economy, spotlighting the core competitiveness and future-readiness of Australian businesses. The chart below is an excerpt from our findings on the financial sector, which anonymously showcases the competitiveness and future-readiness of top ten Australian banks. – IMD Business School We will release the full findings from the ACTI identifying the top companies across the researched sectors alongside concrete case studies of Australian companies that have successfully transformed the business at the Australia Management Transformation Forum.

The forum is designed specifically to bring together senior business leaders who are focused on performing today while simultaneously transforming for tomorrow, allowing them to exchange ideas, strategies, and insight on how to drive these dual transformations to help their companies and the Australian economy become more competitive.
