HEIDI PEARSON
I grew up in the Northern Rivers, in a small beach town just south of Byron Bay called Evans Head. Growing up my parents never had money, we lived in rentals and when the owners sold them we were always forced to find a new place to live. With my mum’s budget this often proved a challenge, leaving us unsure of where we were going to go at times. Moving from rental to rental was a stressful experience – especially having three younger sisters. Throughout highschool I balanced three jobs, in the hope of one day buying my first home.
At eighteen I purchased my first block of land. The land was twenty minutes from the coast and it was the first release of what was going to be a beautiful estate. The block I chose was very sloped and had a high bushfire rating. I had done my research and I knew this would pose a challenge for my build, especially for someone with limited borrowing capacity.
I started working at the bank straight after school and balanced two casual jobs to raise my borrowing capacity up to a standard that would allow me to build. I worked as a personal trainer in the morning, the bank throughout the day and delivered pizza at night. In my limited spare time, I took my plans to every project home builder that would build in my area to assess how much it would cost them to bring the plan I had to life.
I finally found the building company within my budget. In October of 2020, I signed my contract with Stroud Homes and lodged my DA to council. The build commenced in February 2021 and was completed in August. Throughout the time of the build, I decided I needed to branch out from my area and expand my career. In May I applied for a position within Commonwealth Bank in Brisbane. The hiring process was lengthy but it sparked an exciting career opportunity. I was excited about the aspirations I had for my property and the development of my investment portfolio; eventuating in a love for real estate. This passion led me to studying for my QLD Real Estate license.
I was successful with my application for the role at the bank and moved to Brisbane in late May. With my build being complete, border closures have forced me to miss my handover but accepting my first tenants for my brand new house on 08/09/2021 was exciting. I have now finished my real estate studies and lodged my application for my full QLD license. Although I enjoy my role at the bank, I want to pursue a career within property; leading my career goals to Oxbridge.
I am excited to step into the real estate industry and give it my best shot. In the short term, I am focusing on building as much experience as possible with the hope that doors will open for me.
